WATCH: Pressure cooker explodes during ‘Suhoor’ preparation in Fujairah

Surveillance cameras installed in the home of an Emirati in Fujairah showed the moment of a pressure cooking pot explosion during the preparation of ‘Suhoor’ meal, the maid was outside the kitchen at the moment of the explosion, surviving a life-threatening accident.

Pressure cooking is the process of cooking food, using water or other cooking liquid, in a sealed vessel known as a pressure cooker. The cooker works by trapping the steam produced from boiling the cooking liquid inside the vessel. This causes internal pressure and temperature to rise quickly.

Fujairah Civil Defense warned the public against leaving kitchens without installing smoke detectors, pointing out that the kitchens are the most prone places in the houses, especially during the holy month of Ramadan, as people are more likely to cook more meals and forget what’s placed on the gas stove.
