Seven dead after Turkish high-speed train crashes in Ankara

Seven people have been killed and 46 injured after a Turkish high-speed train crashed into an overpass in the country’s capital.

The crash was caused by a collision with a local train, Ankara governor Vasip Sahin said.

Speaking to reporters at the scene, Mr Sahin said the high-speed train, which was travelling to the central province of Konya, had crashed into a locomotive which carries out track inspections.

The train driver is among those who died, and officials say three of those injured are in a serious condition.

Rescue teams sent to the scene were looking for more survivors, he said.

“Our hope is that there are no other victims.”

Two of the train’s carriages derailed in the accident and toppled over, CNN Turk reported.
