Dubai: AED1.6 million stolen from Asian merchant on a motorcycle

An Asian merchant did not abide by the most basic security and safety requirements, and carried a large sum of money (AED1.7 million), trying to move from one place to another on his motorcycle, but three Asians blocked his way, sprayed his face with burning red pepper, and tried to grab the bag of money from him. The bag was eventually torn apart, and the money was scattered on the ground, the accused quickly collected AED1.6 million and fled the scene.

Dubai Public Prosecution has charged five people with theft on the public road. The victim stated in the investigations that the amount was in his possession after he had made business deal with a company in Al Muteena area, explaining that he sold goods AED1.7 million, and carried the money on his motorcycle on the way back.

A Dubai police witness stated that he participated in the arrest of the suspects involved in the incident, while some of them are still on the run. The first suspect said he agreed with the rest of the defendants to steal the money by distributing the roles among themselves, and watching the victim’s movements until he reached an area near the bus stop on Al Muteena Street. Where they attacked him and ripped the money bag after beating him, despite his strong resistance.
