Mother dies, 14-month old baby survives after a run-over accident in Sharjah

Sharjah Police, traffic patrols, and national ambulance teams all responded rapidly to rescue the life of a 14-month-old Arab girl after a run-over accident in Al-Khan Street near Al-Qasba Bridge in Sharjah. Her mother unfortunately lost her life in the accident before arriving to the hospital due to severe injuries, while the child was admitted to the ICU for treatment.

Sharjah Police expressed deep condolences over the accident and its tragic results, noting that despite considerable efforts by competent authorities to prevent road accidents and develop numerous barriers to protect pedestrians, plan pedestrian crossings, and raise traffic awareness, many people still fail to abide by crossing the roads from designated locations, which exposes them to accidents.

The preliminary inspection attributed the accident to lack of attention by the driver, excessive speed, and the mother and her daughter crossing the road from a place not designated for pedestrian crossing, resulting in the accident. The driver was transferred for further investigation of the accident’s circumstances.
