chili-pepper gang sentenced to a year in prison followed by deportation

Dubai Criminal Court sentenced a gang to one year in prison followed by deportation after being charge of attacking an Arab employee by spraying chili-powder on his face and robing AED 1.850 Million from his bag, while he was returning home from his workplace, according to Dubai Public Prosecution investigations which referred the defendants to the criminal court to begin their trial.

Investigations revealed that the gang consists of five members who have the same nationality as the victim, indicating that they have previous knowledge of the amount stolen from him.

The victim said in the investigations that he left his workplace on August 5 was carrying a black bag containing AED 1,850 Million in addition to «iPhone» mobile, and two notebooks when he was surprised by someone hitting him in the back and there were three others, one of them sprayed on his face chili-powder and snatched the money bag from his hand then they ran away.

A witness from the Dubai Police stated before the prosecution’s investigation that upon receiving a report of a robbery crime in Al Baraha area, a team was formed for investigation who was able to identify the people involved in the crime and arrested them. The team found AED 1,750.640 in the residence of the fourth defendant and it turned out that one of the defendants bought items for AED100,000. Other items purchased by defendants from the stolen money were also found.

During the trial, four defendants admitted the crime and only one denied, but his colleagues asserted to the court that he was the mastermind of the theft where he had prior knowledge of the victim’s movements and possession of money.
