Maid sentenced to 7 years in jail for burning her sponsor’s house

The Fujairah Criminal Court sentenced a housemaid to 7 years in jail for burning her sponsor’s house.

According to the official records, the defendant had been working in her sponsor’s house for a while and on the day of the incident she brought a lighter and a flammable liquid and set fire to a cupboard containing garments in one room of the house.

The sponsor brought a fire extinguisher and was able to put out the fire before it spread to the rest of the room. He later called the police who examined the place where they found the tool used in the crime and arrested the housemaid.

The defendant denied the charge and confirmed that she did not do this, but the fire occurred without any interference from her, and she was surprised by it like all members of the family.
