Dubai Police Take Action Against Young Man for Setting Fire on Road to Celebrate Birthday

Dubai Police have warned that turning public roads into arenas for dangerous stunts and recording videos to post on social media for more views is completely unacceptable and poses a serious risk to all road users.

Brigadier Juma Salem bin Suwaidan, Director of the General Department of Traffic at Dubai Police, made the public appeal while explaining that Dubai Police had identified a young man who poured a fast burning flammable substance on a public street and set it alight to celebrate his birthday, in an attempt to attract followers and gain online popularity at the expense of his own safety and the safety of the community and other road users.

Brigadier Juma bin Suwaidan stressed that this behaviour is a clear violation of the Federal Traffic Law and falls under reckless acts that endanger lives and property. He noted that setting fire on a public road not only exposes the driver and others to the risk of fire, but also obstructs traffic, confuses other motorists and causes damage to road infrastructure and the surrounding environment.

He added that once the video clip began circulating on social media platforms, enforcement teams at the General Department of Traffic monitored and analysed the content, identified the young man and the vehicle used, then summoned him and took the necessary legal action. The vehicle was impounded and he was held responsible for all violations and damages resulting from his behaviour.

bin Suwaidan affirmed that Dubai Police will not tolerate anyone who uses public roads to perform dangerous stunts in pursuit of false fame or digital gains. He emphasised that such acts do not reflect the values of society and undermine the efforts made to keep the emirate’s roads safe and free of reckless behaviour.

bin Suwaidan called on parents to keep a close eye on their children’s behaviour and to raise their awareness about the dangers of imitating harmful content that appears on some platforms. He reminded them that seeking likes and views can never justify actions that put their lives and the lives of others at risk or expose them to legal consequences.

He also urged young people to use social media to share positive and meaningful content that reflects the civilised image of the United Arab Emirates, and to avoid any reckless act that might turn a moment of celebration into a painful incident or a criminal case. He concluded by confirming that Dubai Police will continue to intensify field patrols and smart monitoring to detect such practices and deal with them firmly.
