The UAE national jiu-jitsu team has won 3 medals during the jiu-jitsu competition at the World Games 2022, which are being held in Birmingham, US state of Alabama.
UAE champion Faisal Al Ketbi won the gold medal in the 85kg weight category, while Muhammad Al Suwaidi claimed the silver medal in the 69kg category, and Shamma Al Kalbani claimed the bronze medal in the 63kg category.
The UAE jiu-jitsu team included 5 male and female athletes who participated in the competitions that took place at the Birmingham-Southern College.
This achievement is the most unprecedented and important for any Emirati sports team in this tournament, as it is a first for the UAE. This edition of the World Games saw the participation of around 3,600 athletes from 100 nations competing across 36 sports. With 3 new medals added, the UAE’s track record in this edition rose to four medals, after Abdulbari Al Qubaisi won the bronze medal in the skydiving competition last week. Moreover, the overall track record of the UAE jiu-jitsu team in the World Games rose to five medals, including two gold, two silver, and one bronze, bringing the overall total of UAE-won medals at the World Games since they started to seven.
Abdel Moneim Al Hashemi, President of the UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation and the Asian Jiu-Jitsu Union, congratulated the UAE athletes on their great achievement, and wished them luck in adding to the country’s track record in the open weight competitions, which are currently taking place.
For his part, world champion Faisal Al Ketbi expressed his delight at winning the gold medal, and his pride to be able to remain in the lead, after claiming the gold medal in the previous edition of the World Games in Poland.
