Dubai Public Prosecution refers an accused to misdemeanour for the use of sorcery

Dubai Public Prosecution referred a domestic worker of Asian nationality to the Misdemeanour Court on charges of committing an act of witchcraft and sorcery and seeking the assistance of another in acts of deception, sorcery or charlatanry, which is punishable according to the Federal Penal Code.

The details of the incident, as mentioned by Fahd Abdul Karim Balzmoul, head of the Assistant Prosecution Office in Burdabi, are that the victim was subjected to witchcraft and sorcery in her home by the assistant worker.

She stated during the investigations of the Public Prosecution that she noticed during the last period mental and physical fatigue, and then she had some doubts about the accused, who saw some strange behavior on her, and added that she asked the accused, but she denied, so she searched her phone to confirm herself, where she found pictures of magic and conversations that she translated, asking someone from her country regarding magic work .

By asking the victim about the manifestations of witchcraft that she observed in her home, she reported that she heard murmurs and strange words from the accused, while she was in the bathroom at night.

By searching the accused’s phone, she found that she was communicating with a stranger to do magic, and there was a picture sent, which is a doll and some talismans, and it was confirmed when she saw a piece of cloth with some blood hidden in the accused’s room.

Fahd Abdel Karim said that the accused admitted during the interrogation that she had contacted one of her relatives in order to communicate with a “religious man” according to her claim, and he told her that she had to pay 200 dirhams in exchange for praying for her to receive good treatment from her employer, and her relative sent a picture of the doll via “WhatsApp” program.

He requested that she should keep it on her phone, arguing that it will affect the behavior of her employer so that she may treat well.

When asked about the property that was found in her possession, she stated that she had brought it from her village in order to protect her marriage, as it will prevent him from marrying another woman while she is traveling to work away from her hometown.

He explained that the accused in the aforementioned incident had committed an act of sorcery and charlatanry, by bringing actions and using methods and means to influence the victim’s body, heart, or will, and also used another (one of her mates) in acts of sorcery and charlatanry with the intention of affecting the body, heart or will of the victim, accordingly, the domestic worker was referred to the Misdemeanors Court for the charges brought against her.

The Public Prosecution noted the use of witchcraft and sorcery, where the achiever is to be convicted and punished with imprisonment and a fine of not less than 50 thousand dirhams, and deportation for foreigner.

He explained that these actions harm the victims, paralyze their will, blind their insight, and make them submit to some desires against their will, in order to exploit them and influence their decisions.
