Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid.. A national march full of achievements

The Court of His Highness the Ruler of Dubai announced the death of the late Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum this Wednesday morning.

* The late Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum was on December 25, 1945, he was the second son of Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum, the late ruler of Dubai.

* Sheikh Hamdan studied elementary at the Ahmadiyya School and secondary at Dubai High School, then moved to Britain to study English and Municipal Sciences at the University of Cambridge.

* In 2006, Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid received 3 honorary certificates from the British Royal College, to be the first international figure to achieve this achievement.

* Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid assumed the presidency of Dubai Municipality immediately after his graduation in the mid-sixties.

* Sheikh Hamdan held the position of Minister of Finance since the first formation of the Council of Ministers on December 9, 1971 until his death this morning.

* Sheikh Hamdan chaired many high-level government bodies and institutions which are: Dubai Municipality, Al Maktoum Charitable Authority, Dubai World Trade Center, Emirates National Petroleum Company, and a company. Dubai Natural Gas, Dubai Aluminum Company, Emirates National Petroleum Products Company, and Oilfield Processing Center.

* His Highness was also known for his interest in humanitarian work, and his passion for culture, literature and scientific developments. His keenness on sustainable human development in a stable global environment based on dialogue and partnership.


The International Hospital Federation chose him as the best global figure in the fields of health, education and sport in 2005.

Awarded the title of “civilized personality” for the year 2016.
