Highlights of the UAE government news briefing on country’s health status

Dr. Farida Al Hosani, The spokeswoman of the health sector in the country:

• We are currently witnessing a gradual decrease in the number of infections, which is a positive indicator thanks to the country’s efforts in following up the implementation of all national protocols and precautionary measures and proactively providing vaccines to all society members.

• The UAE has managed to administer more than 6 million doses to date and vaccinated 3,614,070 people, thus achieving a rate of 46.61% of the targeted group.

• 61.41% of the elderly group has received the COVID-19 vaccine.

• We call on all society members to visit the nearest health center when showing symptoms and to provide the health authorities with those who were in contact information to protect them and others, especially the most vulnerable to complications.

• Early detection of cases and contacts is an important and effective weapon in limiting the spread of the virus, reducing disease complications, and reducing deaths.

• Some people neglect the respiratory symptoms that may appear on them and do not go for tests or diagnoses until they develop acute respiratory symptoms such as shortness of breath.

• COVID-19 symptoms are similar to the cold, flu, and Influenza symptoms and can only be determined through the PCR test

• Minor symptoms such as fever, cold, or coughing, especially among the elderly and those with chronic diseases, require a physician’s visit and should not be self-managed.

• The more the virus has an opportunity to spread and multiply among humans, the greater the chances of its mutation and the emergence of new strains. Our commitment to precautionary measures remains the best way to curb its spread.

• Measures To protect the elderly include: limiting direct contact with this group, conduct COVID-19 test prior to visits and reduce the visits duration, adhere to wearing mask, maintain physical distancing, wash and sanitize your hands.

• It is difficult to determine how long the one’s immunity will last, as the vaccination process has begun recently. The vaccine effectiveness may vary from one person to another depending on their immune response and the type of vaccine they received.

• The vaccine cannot be a cause of a positive COVID-19 result, as the approved vaccines do not contain the live virus that causes the disease, thus the vaccine cannot infect you.

• Quarantined individuals can go out in the event of any health emergency, without the need to inform anyone, just go to the nearest hospital and request a medical report as evidence if you faced a penalty.
