Dr. Farida Al Hosani: 8% per 100 people has been vaccinated

Dr. Farida Al Hosani, official spokesperson for the UAE Health Sector, during a media briefing on Tuesday.

• We have noticed a marked increase in the number of COVID-19 cases worldwide, and an increase in the number of cases registered in UAE due to the increase in commuting between emirates, in addition to the presence of cases coming from outside the UAE arriving at various airports.

• Our goal in the next stage is to control the increase in the number of cases by reviewing the precautionary measures applied in establishments and institutions and emphasizing the commitment of all members of society to preventive measures.

• We aim to focus on vaccination for the largest possible percentage of society, and access to the acquired immunity resulting from vaccination, which will help reduce the number of cases and control the disease.

• To date, 826,301 COVID-19 vaccines have been administered, equivalent to 47,000 doses per day, and 8% of the country’s total population.

• We aim to reach more than 50% of the country’s population during the first quarter of this year. This will help us reduce cases in general, reduce critical cases in particular, and control the disease better in the next phase.

• A National Awareness Campaign of the COVID-19 vaccine has been launched, which aims to provide all necessary information to the public to enable them to take the appropriate decisions and prevent the spread of the disease.

• We would like to emphasize that people who are most vulnerable, such as the elderly and those with chronic diseases, have priority for receiving the vaccine.

• We focus on this category to ensure their protection. The vaccination has proven 100% successful, effective and safe for senior citizens and residents over 60 years of age, and therefore we advise all people in this category to get the vaccine.

• The UAE is keen to provide vaccinations to young people and those who are 18 years and over, as they are contributing the most to the spread of the disease due to the nature of their lives and activities.

• We believe that it is necessary to provide them with the vaccine to limit the increase in cases in the next stage.

• The vaccine is provided in government and private health facilities and vaccination centres and by vehicle, an innovative method launched by the UAE to ensure procedures for receiving the vaccine are available to the largest segment of society.

• Vaccinations protect children and adults from certain infectious diseases and dangerous complications, thus leading to a healthy society free from diseases and epidemics.

• Vaccinations are among the best and most successful medical interventions in preventing infectious diseases.

• Vaccinations have contributed to achieving the indicators of preventive national programmes for disease eradication and elimination, based on global strategies and best practices, diseases can be deterred through vaccinations.

• Taking the vaccine is optional, not compulsory. The number of doses is two, with three to four weeks between doses.

• Vaccinated individuals are exempt from home quarantine after completing 28 days from receiving the second dose of the vaccine, it is important to perform all of the required tests for this to happen.

• After getting the vaccine, we must continue to follow preventive measures to limit the spread of COVID-19, including wearing masks, physical distancing and washing hands.

• Without concerted efforts, community cohesion and commitment to all preventive measures, we would not have reached the stage of planning to recover from COVID-19.

• The wheel of life is turning, and the most important thing is that everyone shares the responsibility and fully cooperates.
