Two defendants misappropriate AED 100,000 by impersonating E-mail of A trading company

Dubai Public Prosecution referred two jobless accused people to the Misdemeanor Court, as they managed to misappropriate an amount of (AED. 100,000 Hundred Thousand Dirhams) belonging to a private company by creating an email address similar to the company name – victim – and they contacted with the company as its contracting company, misusing the similarities in the email address which they had created with the intention of misappropriating the said money.

Counselor/ Dr. Khalid Ali Al Junaibi, Senior Chief Prosecutor- Deira Prosecution detailed about the case and the conclusion of the investigation procedures that the two accused requested for transfer of the money due with the company to the account of the first accused in one of the banks in the country and after it was transferred, it was again transferred to the account of the second accused in another bank in the country and misappropriated it.

He added that the victim said during the prosecution investigation, that a letter was received on his company e-mail from an email impersonating the company with which it has prior commercial transactions, as one of the accused managed to know the secrets of the correspondence and misled the complainant intentionally by creating an e-mail different in one character from the genuine e-mail. Without checking the similar characters, the complainant implemented the content of the fictitious letter by depositing a cash amount of AED. 100 Thousand in the name of the beneficiary; first accused who then transferred it to the second accused.

Al-Junaibi added that the duo committed fraud by using one of the IT means, punishable as per the Federal Penal Code. Accordingly, the duo accused were referred in absentia to the Court of Misdemeanor & Violations.
