Dubai Police arrest Two Juveniles for Driving without Licence, Hitting Police Patrol

The Dubai Police have arrested two juveniles, aged 14 and 15, for driving a vehicle recklessly and deliberately hitting a police patrol, thus violating traffic laws and endangering their lives and other road users.

Brigadier Saeed Hamad Bin Sulaiman Al Malik, Director of Al Rashidiya Police Station, confirmed that the duo have been referred to the public prosecution for further legal actions on charges of driving a vehicle recklessly without a driving license, endangering the lives of road users, deliberately hitting a police patrol, and damaging public property.

Brig. Al Malik cautioned against the absence of the family role in monitoring their children and enabling them to drive vehicles without driving license, in contrary to the provisions of Federal Act No. 21 of 1995 on the traffic.

He stressed the force’s keenness to maintain road safety and curb those who violate traffic laws, and called upon parents to stay vigilant and prevent their children from unsupervised access to vehicles or driving without a license.

Brig. Al Malik confirmed that a traffic patrol was surveilling the jurisdiction area of Al Rashidiya Police Station when they suspected a vehicle in Al-Warqa area at 4:00 am. “The officer asked the vehicle driver to stop immediately, but he refused to comply with the orders and proceeded to hit the police patrol, endangering his life and the lives of police officers by his reckless behavior,” Al Malik added.

Al Malik continued, “After hitting the police patrol, the juvenile drove the car in the opposite direction and posed danger to himself and all road users before the police patrol stopped his vehicle,”

“The police officers found that the driver was a 14-year-old juvenile thus he does not yet have a license. He was also accompanied by a 15-year-old juvenile”, Al Malik added.

Brig. Al Malik explained that the preliminary investigations showed that the juvenile borrowed his brother’s vehicle without the latter’s knowledge, stressing that the juvenile’s behavior brings him to legal accountability.

The Director of Al Rashidiya Police Station urged parents to educate and guide their children’s as they are the first and the best monitors their children could ever have. “Children should be taught to be responsible and to avoid dangerous activities or going out without supervision. Children should be aware that these restrictions are set to protect them and parents should be the ones to positively influence their behaviors,” Brig. Al Malek added.
