A grilled food restaurant causes burns for a worker

Abu Dhabi Court of Appeal has postponed the verdict until next Wednesday, 20 November for a grilled food restaurant in Abu Dhabi for causing burns to one of its workers due to the lack of security and safety measurements in the restaurant.

The victim stated during the hearing “I came to the restaurant at 8:00 am and I was hungry, so I decided to cook a fish in the oven and when I tried to open the oven and ignite the fire there was gas leakage which resulted in burning my face and body”.

The worker said that his job was cleaning the restaurant and was not authorized to eat, but he was very hungry. He has also waived the lawsuit against the restaurant as they have undertaken his treatment charges and paid him full salary during his 40-days sick leave, as well as sending food to his residence during this period.

The restaurant`s owner (Gulf nationality) denied the charges and stressed that what happened was the worker’s mistake, and demanded acquittance and waver of the first instance court ruling of AED 5,000 penalty.
