Two Gulf men impersonat Interpol police officers

Dubai Criminal Court has sentenced two Gulf men, aged 36 and 37, to five years in prison each for charges of impersonating interpol police officers, kidnapping a 33-year-old Asian man and stealing AED 1.7 million from him.

In detail, the two defendants stopped the victim near his workplace in Bani Yas area in Dubai and they showed him an identity card claiming to be Interpol officers. In the meantime, the victim sent SMS to his friend telling him that the police had arrested him.

The victim stated that he was abducted in a vehicle with two Asian men and was taken to a villa under construction in a neighboring emirate. The kidnappers then threatened and demended him to hand over the suitcase to them, after which they shared the amount in the suitcase in front of his eyes and took him back in the car to return to Dubai from Abu dhabi.

According to the victim, while the defendants were on their way to Dubai, the police stopped the vehicle and arrested the gang. It turned out that the victim’s friend reported the incident to the police and told that he was carrying a suitcase containing a large amount of money.

An officer testified that the police immediately identified the defendants and arrested the person who took the victim in the car from Abu Dhabi on the way back to Dubai.
