Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid wishes the world a happy Diwali

Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid has wished all who celebrate Diwali a happy festival of lights.

The Vice President and Ruler of Dubai tweeted his message on behalf of the people and residents of the UAE on the eve of Diwali, Thursday.

“To all who are celebrating Diwali, let me wish them, on behalf of the people and residents of UAE, a truly joyful festival,” Sheikh Mohammed said.

“May the light from the festivities around the world shine a blessing of love and hope on us all.”

Diwali begins on Friday and lasts five days. During the festival, families decorate their houses with candles and lights, organise prayer ceremonies at home and make and hand out sweets.

Millions of Indians residents in the UAE pay homage to age-old traditions and family customs for the festival.

A wide variety of events have been organised across the Emirates in anticipation.

More than 60 schools in Dubai will close on Sunday to allow families to celebrate the holiday.

The Knowledge and Human Development Authority, the emirate’s private schools regulator, on Thursday confirmed that 62 schools were allowed to provide a long weekend for staff and pupils.
