Dubai school security guard dies after being hit by car

Tributes have been paid to a security guard who died after being hit by a vehicle outside the gates of the Dubai school he worked at.

Universal American School (UAS) in Festival City confirmed an employee died on Monday.

“An unfortunate incident took place outside the school gates of UAS on Monday afternoon, which sadly resulted in the passing of one of our security guards,” a statement from UAS said.

The security guard was named locally as Lil Bahador Pariyar, who is understood to have worked at the school, which opened in 2005, for a number of years.

Pariyar was described as “always very genuine and loved striking conversations with people”.

Dubai Police officers are investigating the accident.

An eyewitness said the guard was ushering cars through the gates when the accident occurred.

He described how school workers ran to the man’s aid as another security guard shouted for help.

Floral tributes were left outside the school on Tuesday.

A well-wisher also placed a large hand-written note, carrying the name of the deceased, at the scene.

It read: “Every morning when we come to school you would greet us with a smile.

“Every evening [as] we left you waved us goodbye.

“Every when we didn’t see you [you] would keep us safe.

“We hope you rest in peace and know that you’ll be missed by so many.”
