Death penalty for 8 men over armed robbery

Sharjah Court of First Instance sentenced eight African men to death for armed robbery at a money exchange center in Sharjah.
The defendants were charged with armed robbery, public assault and seizing money by force.
Another defendant was also sentenced in the same case with six months in prison to be followed by deportation for possession of stolen money.
He denied the charge and said that he didn’t know it was stolen cash. He added that one of the defendants’ brother asked him to transfer Dh60,000 to his overseas account. He said that he only know the brother of one of the accused not all defendants.
Sharjah Police was alerted about armed robbery for a money exchange office and police they checked the surveillance cameras and found fingerprints to identify the defendants.
They were caught and admitted to their crime to the police and one of the defendants returned part of the stolen money.
