Ajman Police arrested a 22-year-old Asian man for blackmailing an Arab girl with her photos after being mistakenly added to a “WhatsApp” group chat.
Lt. Col. Yehia Khalaf Al Matroushi, head of Al Shamil Police Station, stated that a 20-year-old Arab girl reported being blackmailed by a stranger who sent her private photos of her, after adding his pictures to them using “Photoshop”, threatening to publish the pictures if she did not send him money.
The girl explained that a friend of hers made a group through the social networking App “WhatsApp”, and added her female friends in the group to coordinate a trip. The girls exchanged pictures within the group. After which a stranger appeared in the group and asks her for money in return for not publishing her pictures.
The girls, shocked with the stranger’s presence in the group found out that one of the girls had changed her phone number a year ago.
Ajman Police immediately acted and the criminal investigation began to search for the man. He was then arrested and brought in and was found to be a 22-year-old Asian man. His mobile phone was investigated and interrogated. He admitted that the phone number was in his possession and that he included his pictures with the girl’s photos to blackmail her.
