UAE receives 7 Emiratis, 2 Egyptians who were held by Iran

UAE has received seven Emiratis and two Egyptians held in Iran since the end of January during a fishing trip in the Arabian Gulf. 

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation announced on Wednesday the release of the seven UAE nationals, in addition to two Egyptian nationals who were released by the Iranian authorities after they were detained while on a fishing trip.

HE Ahmed Al Mazrouei, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, thanked the PSC and the Coast Guard for their efforts in handing over the released persons and helping to ensure their safe return to the country. He stressed that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation has followed the case since the beginning and has been keen to coordinate and complete the procedures for the release of all detainees.

He added that the Ministry has also taken in cooperation with the competent authorities in the State all the necessary measures to ensure the return trip of the Emirati citizens and the Egyptian brothers to their families as soon as possible.

His Excellency stressed that the affairs of UAE citizens is a priority in the work of the ministry, and therefore has been following up this file on a daily basis and in coordination with the relevant authorities. The handover took place through the UAE Coast Guard and in coordination with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.
