960,000 people in the UAE are at risk of getting this disease

The 9th UAE Diabetes Conference revealed that 9% of the health authorities budget in the country are spent on diabetes and that the number of people at risk of diabetes in the country is estimated at 960 thousand, compared with 840 thousand people who were diagnosed with it in 2018.

According to the National Survey conducted by the Ministry of Health and Prevention, in line with the National Plan 2021, while Nam Cho, President of the World Diabetes Federation, revealed that stem cell therapy caused global complications that reached the extent of death, and that every 7 seconds, someone in the world dies due to diabetes.

Dr. Abdul Razzaq Al Madani, conference manager, stated that the percentage of those exposed to the disease is greater than the number of people diagnoesed, which requires periodic examination, in addition to following healthy lifestyles and staying away from the causes of the disease. He said that the UAE in general and Dubai in particular have long recognized the importance of tackling diabetes, which has become one of the most important and major challenges faced by governments in general and those concerned with providing health services, especially that 9% of health service budgets are spent on diabetes.

Prof. Nam H. Cho called on governments to take adequate measures to address the disease. Pointing out that the disease costs the world 776 billion dollars annually.
