Coffee beans shot into space, roasted for a Dubai coffee shop

The US start-up “Space Roasters” plans to launch its ambitious project to test coffee roasting in space before being presented at a coffee shop in Dubai. The company had obtained a patent for a capsule on which the roasting process is carried out in the absence of gravity.

The entrepreneurs Hatem Alkhafaji and Anders Cavallini, who are currently working on the Space Roasting Capsule (SRC), explain that a capsule will be shot into space and the heat of the re-entry to the Earth’s atmosphere would roast the beans as they float in a pressurised tank in a zero-gravity environment. Thus producing, according to Alkhafaji and Cavallini, perfectly roasted beans.
