ADP warns against saving family pictures and videos on social media outlets

After recording extortion incidents, Abu Dhabi Police has called on the public not to store family photos and videos on social media outlets, as this may expose them to hacking and blackmail.

Colonel Omran Ahmed Al Mazroui, Acting Director of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) at the Abu Dhabi Police emphasized the danger of anonymous links and fraudulent online tricks that claim to increase your number of followers or demand you to update your data, eventually allowing hacking professionals and even beginners can seize and exploit them.

He pointed out that some fraudulent links operate in the background without the user’s awareness, pointing out the importance of reporting any incidents of hacking to the competent authorities.

Al Mazroui also called on the public not to open suspicious links, and to ensure that security settings are activated before using applications. He also stated that it is best not to keep data and personal information on personal devices, and use external hard disks instead.

Abu Dhabi Police has previously launched awareness campaigns, including “Be Careful” campaign, that warns the public of hacking and telephone fraud.
