Up to AED100,000 fine for retailers using Flag day to raise product prices

The Ministry of Economy announced the organization of control campaigns in cooperation with local competent authorities to monitor retailers who take advantage of UAE’s Flag day celebrations to raise product prices.

According to Dr. Hashim Al Nuaimi, Director of Consumer Protection Department fines of  5,000 to 100,000 dirhams will be imposed on violators, and that the controls will continue until the celebration of the 47th National Day on the 2nd of December.

Al Nuaimi stated in a press statement: “The Ministry of Economy received complaints about the increased prices of Flag products. The ministry is verifying the validity of complaints through inspection campaigns for various outlets in cooperation with economic authorities and municipalities to control markets and prevent unjustified high prices. Pointing out that the plan of the ministry includes fining those causing the increase in prices between 5 to 100 thousand dirhams.
