Dubai: Manager jailed for harassing female employee in return for approving her leave

Dubai Court of Appeal upheld a three-month jail term for a shop owner who harassed a female employee and tried to forcefully get her to obey him in return to giving her permission to leave for her child’s birthday.

According to investigations by the Public Prosecution, the defendant asked the employee to meet him in his car outside the shop in Al-Qusais area, which she refused. The victim said she thought he wanted to see things discuss things related to work, or wanted her to pick up products from the car to the shop, as usual, but he asked her to get into the car to talk about something.

According to the victim’s statement, the defendant talked to her first about the decline in the shop sales, and how to find ways to increase sales, she then asked him to for a leave the day after to arrange for her child’s birthday, but she was surprised that he locked the car’s door and then began to touch her inappropriately. He then pulled her from her hair and began to harass her, she tried to push him but he did not back down she she screamed and forcefully stopped him, he also tried to take off her clothes and threatened her with losing her job if she told anyone what had happened.

The defendant was arrested and referred to the Public Prosecutor’s Office. He denied the charge to the criminal court, but the court found him guilty. He appealed against the sentence before the Court of Appeal, which supported his three-month imprisonment and deportation.
