Dubai: African visitor gets 7 years in prison, deportation, after trying to involve his brother in a drug case

Dubai’s Criminal Court sentenced an African visitor yesterday to seven years in prison, a AED 20,000 fine, and deportation from the country after he was found to possess narcotic substances in the form of 1,120 capsules containing “Pregabalin” and tried to clear himself from the charge by claiming it was his brothers’ who lives in Dubai.

A Dubai customs inspector testified before the Public Prosecutor’s Office that the 28-year-old visitor was suspected after arriving at the passenger terminal at the airport and his hand luggage was inspected. It was then found that it contained a large quantity of pharmaceutical capsules labeled “Pregabalin” .

She added that by asking the defendant about these capsules, he said that he did not know they were in his possession and he was going to deliver them to his brother who is in Dubai.
