Dubai: Two men sentenced to three years in jail for causing a woman’s death

Dubai’s Court of Appeal rejected an appeal made by two men accused of causing the death of a woman who fell from the balcony of a third-floor hotel apartment in Al Qusais area while attempting to escape. The court confirmed the sentence of three years’ imprisonment and deportation on charges of detaining a woman against her will, robbing her, and having consensual sex with her, their third friend was also convicted of alcohol abuse.

Prosecutors stated that the three friends, aged between 24 and 35, had taken the woman to a rented apartment.

Hotel cameras showed them entering the building. However, within a short time, two men fled the scene and a report was sent to the police about the death of a woman who had fallen from the apartment where they were.

A Dubai police witness stated that a team of forensics and crime scene investigators arrived at the scene and found that the woman had already lost her life, with all her clothes that were not ripped and had no signs of any violence.

The police officer stated in his testimony that he had asked one of the accused who was in the hotel’s reception to contact his friends and agree to meet them behind the hotel, and when they came to meet him, the police arrested them. Pointing out that the defendants were with the woman in the apartment when she decided to leave after receiving a call from another customer, after which they threatened her with a knife, caused her injuries, and closed the room so she could not leave, therefore she tried to jump to the neighboring apartment, but she fell and died.

The three defendants denied the charge of detaining the woman against her will and robbing her. However, they confessed to the charge of consensual sex.
