A 24-year-old woman went on trial for swallowing 15 pills which she bought online to abort her fetus, a Sharjah Misdemeanour court heard.
She bought the pills online with the help of her husband, and then consumed them, which resulted in severe bleeding and she was transferred to Al Qasimi Hospital.
The prosecution charged her with deliberately abortion.
On end of May this year, the husband came to the police station with a medical report from the hospital that his wife aborted the fetus that was six weeks and four days old.
However, the couple denied the medical report during the investigation and claimed that the abortion happened after the woman took a medicine for colic and intestinal infections, which was prescribed by a doctor at a private clinic in Sharjah. The clinic denied having issued such prescription.
According to the husband, the couple went to the clinic on May 17 to confirm the pregnancy. He said that after a few days, she called him, saying she suffered from a minor haemorrhage and went to the clinic.
The doctor at the clinic told her that she was okay but after one day she suffered from severe colic. The doctor at the clinic prescribed anti-inflammatory pills but the bleeding increased and he took her to Al Qasimi Hospital.
The report revealed that the woman took 15 Misoprostol tablets as she purchased it online.
