Dubai: 20-year-old sets fire to family’ villa, stabs himself

Dubai Police have investigated the case of an Arab young man in the early 20’s who burned his father’s home in the Al Warqa area of Dubai and attempted suicide, resulting in severe burns to the 57-year-old father and his 30-year-old wife, who were both transferred to Rashid hospital in a dangerous situation.

Dubai Police confirmed that, according to initial investigations, the son got into a dispute with his father after he remarried in January and wanted to seek revenge. After setting the villa on fire, the young man stabbed himself three times in the neck with a knife. However, the victims could not be interrogated due to their poor health condition.

The police denied any evidence that the young man committed the crime under the influence of any video game.

The incident took place last week, when the police received the report of a fir in Al Warqaa area. Immediately, the civil defense teams moved to extinguish the fire. The incident was clearly not a regular fire, but a criminal suspicion.

The son had rushed to the gas station an hour back to buy petrol and set fire to the villa at 1:00 AM when his father and stepmother were sleeping.

Investigations also revealed that the young man was living in a foreign country and returned to live with his father. However, he disagreed with him because of his father’s marriage to a woman other than his mother. In recent days he had great disagreements with his father, which led him to commit his act.

According to Dubai police, the competent authorities are still waiting for the situation of the young man, the father and his wife to improve for further questioning in the facts of the crime.
