A girl of European nationality tried to jump out of the balcony of her apartment in a residential building in Al Barsha area, following pressure and family problems. An officer at Al Barsha police station managed to convince her to retreat from suicide, and helped restore her confidence.
The director of Al Barsha police station, Brigadier Abdulrahman bin Shafie, told a local news paper that the operating room had received a phone call reporting that a female (married with children) was trying to commit suicide by jumping off the balcony of her house.
He added that an officer was dispatched from Al Barsha police station , treated the girl professionally and persuaded her in a few minutes to retreat from committing suicide, by reassuring the girl and convincing her that life is still ahead of her, and that there is a solution to all problems. In addition to reassuring her that the police are able to protect and help her.
He added that the girl was brought to the police station with her husband, and was reassured that the police will deal with her from the social and psychological perspective, away from the subject of suicide.
He pointed out that it was found that the girl suffers from a psychological condition, as a result of the accumulation of family conflicts, so her status was monitored through the “Window of Hope” initiative, in coordination with the Health Authority and the Community Development Authority, by subjecting her to a psychological, social and medical program to rehabilitate her psychologically and socially, all under the directives of the Commander-in-Chief of Dubai Police, Major General Abdullah Khalifa Al Marri.
He added that the girl’s confidence in Dubai Police, which she gained from the strong reputation of Dubai police, made her trust the officer and rethink committing suicide, explaining that the girl received the psychological support she expected from Dubai Police, which she had heard of before.
