Al Wasl and Shabab Al Ahli Match.. Dubai Police Take Action Against Football Match Rioters

Dubai Police have confirmed the arrest of individuals involved in the post-match disturbances following the UAE Pro League fixture between Al Wasl and Shabab Al Ahli football clubs.

The announcement was made by His Excellency Major General Abdullah Ali Al Ghaithi, Assistant Commander-in-Chief for Operations Affairs at Dubai Police.

Al Ghaithi stated that the Dubai Police launched an immediate investigation following the match’s conclusion, using surveillance footage and video analysis to identify those responsible for the altercations and public disturbances.

“Legal action has been taken against the individuals involved, and they have been referred to the competent authorities for further proceedings,” he confirmed.

“In line with our commitment to public safety and maintaining a respectful atmosphere at sporting events, Dubai Police emphasise the importance of avoiding fanaticism and unruly behaviour in stadiums,” said Al Ghaithi.

“Sporting events are intended to bring enjoyment and foster healthy competition in a spirit of mutual respect among fans.”

He urged all supporters to adhere to proper standards of conduct, highlighting that spectator behaviour reflects the values and image of the UAE as a global leader in hosting professional sporting events.

Al Ghaithi also warned against irresponsible behaviour that undermines the spirit of sportsmanship and respect.

“Stadiums must remain spaces of camaraderie and joy, not arenas of conflict and aggression,” he stressed.

He praised the relentless efforts of Dubai Police teams in securing stadium venues, protecting attendees, monitoring vehicle movement, and providing all necessary services before, during, and after matches. “We will continue to take legal action against anyone violating security protocols or fan conduct regulations,” he added.

Sanctions by the Football Association’s Disciplinary Committee

In conjunction with the police action, the UAE Football Association’s Disciplinary Committee issued fines following its meeting regarding the incident.

  • Shabab Al Ahli Club was fined AED 70,000 for fans verbally abusing opposing supporters and throwing water bottles both onto the pitch and at rival fans.
  • Al Wasl Club received a fine of AED 80,000 for fans igniting a smoke flare, directing offensive chants at the opposition, and throwing objects onto the field and toward other spectators.
