AFC Asian Cup 2023: UAE finish as Group C runners after narrow defeat to Iran

Mehdi Taremi’s brace propelled Iran to a 2-1 victory over the UAE in Group C of the AFC Asian Cup Qatar 2023 at Education City Stadium on Tuesday, sending both teams to the round of 16.

The UAE qualified as runners-up of Group Three with 4 points, ahead of Palestine in third place who defeated Hong Kong 3-0, also today at Abdullah bin Khalifa Stadium.

Taremi opened his Qatar 2023 account in the 25th minute and 65th minute before UAE’s Al Ghassani made up for his missed penalty kick with a decisive goal in added time of the second half.
