Dubai: Employee asks for AED 100,000 bribe in exchange for reducing a company’s fine

Dubai Criminal Court had received a case of an employee who asked for a AED100,000 bribe in return for reducing a company’s fine from AED 2.4 million to AED 400,000.

Investigations by the Public Prosecutor’s Office indicated that the accused’s job was to check the accounts of companies, to check any manipulation of sales statements, but he requested a bribe in return for reducing a company’s fine after the company manipulated sales statements.

An official from the company stated that the defendant contacted him asking for AED 100,000 in exchange for a reduction in the fine owed to his employer.

He added that the accused gave him a month to deliver the money, and called him again, so the employee decided to inform the police and coordinate with them to prepare an ambush.

The court  postponed the case to October 7.
