In its Thursday editorial, The Gulf Today quoted Walt Whitman as saying, “peace is always beautiful.”
“At a time when wars and conflict roil various parts of the world, the UAE has emerged as a role model of stability and tranquility, an oasis of peace, a hub of calm in the region. And rightly so. His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, has affirmed that the UAE, under the leadership of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, supports every effort aimed at achieving peace, security and stability across the world,” the paper added.
At an official tripartite meeting on Tuesday at the Presidential Palace with President Isaias Afwerki of Eritrea, and Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed of Ethiopia, Sheikh Mohamed praised the bold and historic step taken by the leaders of the two neighbouring countries to end their conflict, it continued. “The UAE played a key role in bringing about peace between the erstwhile two warring states.
Sheikh Mohamed added that the neighbouring countries and their leaders had demonstrated the will and determination to normalise relations and overcome many years of conflict and instability. The English language daily quoted His Highness as saying, “This is a model that can inspire others and ought to be used to resolve conflicts in Africa and other parts of the world, thus enhancing regional security and stability and opening wider areas of cooperation.”
“He noted that the UAE leadership and their people would be delighted to see all parts of the world becoming peaceful, secure and prosperous. The UAE is prepared to actively assist in the process of restoring peace, coexistence and development.
“The UAE believes in establishing a firm foundation in peace. It rightly is in a position to do so as it is a country where the safety quotient is constantly going north while the crime rate is going south. It rightly deserves to be called a haven of quintessential peace as it harbours over 200 nationalities who coexist without a murmur or argument, where communal discord, prevalent in a good number of countries around the world, is a no-no, where stress in accessing amenities is off the social radar, where life hits a new high in style, where the family is the core focus of development,” it continued.
The Sharjah-based daily concluded, “Since its formation, the UAE has supported the cause of peace, security and development at the international level. The UAE supports strong and transparent values in its institutions. It is these sterling qualities in such a nation that make both tourists and those who seek to enhance living standards flock to the country in droves.”
