WhatsApp may soon allow users to choose the quality of video before sharing

Instant messaging app WhatsApp may soon allow its users to choose the quality of the video that they want to share. Currently, there is no choice in terms of that as the app compresses them by default before sending. This was spotted by WABetaInfo, the online channel that track the changes and upcoming features of the Facebook-owned app.

This feature, when rolled out, should allow users to have the option to select which videos they may want in high resolution and which they are okay with in low-resolution.

Further, this support will allow WhatsApp users to save a lot of space in the overall WhatsApp backup. This will in turn help in saving space in Google Drive (in case of Android phones) or iCloud (in case of iPhones).

WhatsApp will allow three options to choose from.

– Auto (recommended)
The first will be Auto that is said to be recommended. Report doesn’t delve into the details of it, just says that the app will detect what is the best compression algorithm for specific videos. There is no word on internet connectivity or storage space playing a role in that.

– Best quality
This is the quality in which the video was exchanged on the platform.

– Data Saver
This should compress videos before sending them. When is this feature expected to be rolled out According to WABetaInfo, the feature has been spotted in the Android 2.21.14.6 beta version of the app. However, it is currently under development and therefore is expected to be rolled out later. Also, even though it has been spotted in an Android beta version of the app, the company is expected to roll it out to iOS users too.
