Highlights of the UAE government news briefing on country’s health status

Dr. Farida Al Hosani, the spokeswoman of the health sector in the country:

• Activating a group of field hospitals and more will operate in the next phase in the country’s various emirates, as the number of field hospitals will reach 7 during the next phase.

• We have noticed a gradual decrease in the number of registered cases during the past two weeks, due to the implementation of all national protocols, in addition to the competent authorities’ close supervision. It indicates an improvement of the epidemiological situation in general.

• The Ministry of Health and Prevention succeeded in providing the vaccine to 3,480,415 of the country’s population, with a rate of 44.89% of the targeted group. The vaccine was also provided to 57.66% of the total population for those over 60 years old.

• 5,668,264 doses were administered with a distribution rate of 57.31 per 100 people, while the number of tests exceeded more than 29 million tests.

• Collective immunity is part of the indirect protection phases from an infectious disease. It occurs when a large number of community members acquire immunity to a specific infection, such as through vaccination.

• When most of the population becomes immune to an infectious disease, this will lead to indirect protection for people who are not immunized due to the limited spread of the disease.

• We would like to confirm the vaccines’ effectiveness and safety that have been approved in the UAE, especially for the elderly and people with chronic diseases. We advise and encourage everyone to take the vaccine, as it is our safe way to recover.

• Health professionals have reviewed and updated the procedures for ending the isolation of COVID-19 patients or their contacts, including mandatory 10 consecutive days home quarantine for those in contact with positive cases, even if they tested negative.

Ismail Al Bloushi, The official Spokesman of the Aviation Sector:

• To contain the pandemic & resume flights, the UAE developed protocols to ease flights’ return with precautionary measures to prevent spreading during travel. These protocols were circulated to all national and foreign carriers and airports in the country.

• More than 2,700,000 tests for arrivals have been conducted since restarting flights. The total rate of positive results is 0.7%. More than 70% of front-line workers in the aviation sector were vaccinated, to ensure their safety and the safety of travellers.

• The General Civil Aviation Authority launched the first mobile center in the world for civil aviation medical services, as one of the most prominent achievements following the Covid-19 pandemic, due to its provision of medical services & lab & clinical tests.

• WHO has stated that there is no “zero risk” rate when looking to allow travel between countries. Therefore, a comprehensive and continuous risk assessment is undertaken to identify and reduce those risks. The decision-making process includes situational analysis, taking into account the local situation in countries of departure and countries of destination.
