Tom and Jerry celebrate 81 years of its first appearance in 1940

The duo, Tom and Jerry’s iconic cartoon film, that plays cat and mouse, just turned 81.

As Tom and Jerry celebrate their eighty-first anniversary, the film will debut on the twenty-sixth day of February this year.

Tom and Jerry made its first appearance on the tenth day of February 1940 and focused on the rivalry between Tom the cat and Jerry the mouse.

Initially produced by William Hanna and Barbera (1940- 1958), the cartoon won more than six Academy Awards under Best Animated Short Film.

After closing down in 1957, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer cartoon studios revived the film with a new director, Gene Deitch.

This year, the film that is a live-action comedy uses Tom and Jerry’s names, and it got directed by Tim Story and written by Kevin Costello.
