Two Widowed Penguins Comforting Each Other Wins Best Picture Of 2020

A picture of two widowed penguins comforting each other has won a photography prize after going viral in the first coronavirus lockdown.

The image won the Community Choice Award at Oceanographic magazine’s Ocean Photography Awards 2020.

Taken by photographer Tobias Baumgaertner, the image – which sees the two Fairy penguins overlooking the twinkling Melbourne skyline – was shared widely during the first lockdown and amassed an impressive 53,000 likes on Instagram.
