The UAE Government today held a news briefing to present the health situation in the country.

During the briefing, Dr. Omar Al Hammadi, Official Spokesperson of the UAE Government, revealed statistics and data monitored by relevant authorities to analyse the health situation in the UAE between 14 and 20 October:

• The tests revealed a 15% increase in the number of confirmed cases, and accordingly the rate of positive cases out of the total tests increased by 1%, the same as the previous week.

• This week witnessed a 9% increase in the recovery rate.

• The total number of deaths during this week was 22 cases, making the death rate stands at 0.4%, which is one of the lowest rates in the world.

Dr. Farida Al Hosani, the official spokeswoman of the UAE health sector stated:

• We are witnessing a significant increase in the number of positive cases just like most of the countries around the world, and the surge is expected to continue during the next stage. The number of recoveries is increasing as well.

• The surge is a natural result and part of a global pattern due to the gradual return to normal life and activities in various sectors.

• We call on all community members to follow healthy habits and to contribute effectively to facilitate the health authorities’ procedures in identifying contacts.

• There are different types of vaccines, where some are made up of inactive particles of the germ, others are made of an attenuated form of the germ, while some are genetically modified proteins that resemble the real germ proteins.

• Regardless of these components, the function of the vaccine is to induce the immune system to recognize the pathogen and combat it when it enters the human body.

• The 3 objectives for developing the vaccine, are: preventing a new infection, preventing dangerous complications, and limiting the virus transmission from the infected person to others.

• Due to the “COVID-19” pandemic, many scientific and experimental steps have been skipped for the humans’ sake. While the normal process of vaccine development usually takes a long time that may extend for decades.
