Bayern Munich destroy Barcelona in stunning Champions League quarter final

Bayern Munich inflicted a 8-2 humiliation on Barcelona in one of the most sensational games in Champions League knockout history.

The Bavarians, who battered Spurs 7-2 in the group stages, were 4-1 up just 31 minutes into the game courtesy of goals from Thomas Muller (2), Ivan Perisic and Serge Gnabry.

And they continued to embarrass the opposition in the second half. Having seen David Alaba put through his own net in the first half, Luis Suarez became the first Barca player to get on the scoresheet when he made it 4-2 and gave the Blaugrana feint hopes of a comeback.

But Bayern proved just why many deem them to be favourites for this competition and proceeded to dismantle Barca even further.

Joshua Kimmich made it five following a wondrous run from the roadrunner that is Alphonso Davies before Robert Lewandowski got his customary goal to make it 6-2.

Then, the remarkable script finished with a flourish as Philippe Coutinho, on loan from Barcelona, bagged himself a brace against his parent club after entering the fray as a late substitute.

This was basically the club version of Germany’s 7-1 trouncing of Brazil in the 2014 World Cup and sees Bayern set up a semi-final with the winner of tomorrow’s tie between Manchester City and Lyon.
