A woman loses AED 390.000 through a phone scam

A woman loses AED 390.000 through a phone scam after she received a telephone call from an unknown person stating that she has won a grand financial prize. She forgot the security alerts and warnings and without hesitation, she disclosed her confidential bank account details that enabled the scammer to hack the account and transfer large amounts of money to 7 other people without knowing the real reasons behind those transfers.

After realizing the theft, she informed the competent authorities to investigate her case, but it was too late as the fraudster had already escaped and he remained anonymous in the case file and the Court of Cassation had to adjourn the case.

The court failed to prove that the people to whom the money was transferred were in a relationship with the anonymous scammer.

The Abu Dhabi Court of Cassation acquitted the seven people who were accused of financial fraud after they were accused of communicating with an anonymous through the internet to seize a cash amounting to AED 390.000.
