Venkateswaran, of Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital, led the two procedures, according to local reports.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">He said: &#8216;If the objects were not removed in time, the patient might have developed complications like intestinal bleeding and sepsis that eventually lead to death.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">Doctors carefully carried out the gastroscopy procedures over two days, removing 22 metal items from Jayakumar&#8217;s stomach one day, and a further 18 items the next.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">Medics said the smallest item measured 2cm and that a number of items were stuck to the magnet inside his stomach.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">The objects were\u00a0first identified when he had a brain MRI for a psychiatric disorder, for which he had been undergoing treatment for three years.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">Dr Jayanthi Rangarajan, who works at the hospital, said: &#8216;This being a procedure involving a magnetic field, a technical issue occurred.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">&#8216;The patient then developed abdominal pain.
