Seven people have been killed and 46 injured after a Turkish high-speed train crashed into an overpass in the country’s capital.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The crash was caused by a collision with a local train, Ankara governor Vasip Sahin said.<\/p>\n

Speaking to reporters at the scene, Mr Sahin said the high-speed train, which was travelling to the central province of Konya, had crashed into a locomotive which carries out track inspections.<\/p>\n

The train driver is among those who died, and officials say three of those injured are in a serious condition.<\/p>\n

Rescue teams sent to the scene were looking for more survivors, he said.<\/p>\n

“Our hope is that there are no other victims.”<\/p>\n

Two of the train’s carriages derailed in the accident and toppled over, CNN Turk reported.<\/p>\n

Footage showed emergency workers at the crash site, where carriages were trapped beneath the mangled metal wreckage of a pedestrian overpass at the Marsandiz train station, to the west of the capital.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
