{"id":5984,"date":"2018-11-24T11:35:25","date_gmt":"2018-11-24T07:35:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.uaebarq.ae\/en\/?p=5984"},"modified":"2018-11-24T11:35:25","modified_gmt":"2018-11-24T07:35:25","slug":"fake-taxi-driver-jailed-after-scamming-tourist-couple-in-paris","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.uaebarq.ae\/en\/2018\/11\/24\/fake-taxi-driver-jailed-after-scamming-tourist-couple-in-paris\/","title":{"rendered":"Fake taxi driver jailed after scamming tourist couple in Paris"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"sdc-news-story-article__intro\"><strong>A fake taxi driver who demanded a tourist couple in Paris pay \u20ac247 (\u00a3219) for a trip from the airport has been jailed.<\/strong><\/p>\n<div class=\"sdc-news-story-article__body\">\n<p>The Thai couple&#8217;s dispute with the driver went viral when a video of the incident was posted to YouTube on 9 November.<\/p>\n<p>Chakrid Thanhachartyothin and his wife wanted to take a taxi from Charles de Gaulle airport to their hotel in central Paris, which typically costs \u20ac45-55 (\u00a339-\u00a348).<\/p>\n<p>But the 25-year-old driver &#8211; named as Enock C &#8211; aggressively insisted on a payment of \u20ac247 (\u00a3219).<\/p>\n<p>When the couple refused to pay the amount, the driver locked them inside the car and refused to let them out.<\/p>\n<p>At a Paris court, he was found guilty of fraud and extortion involving threats and jailed for eight months, French media reported.<\/p>\n<p>In the video, he becomes angry when the tourists offer him \u20ac180 (\u00a3159). &#8220;You pay me 200 Euro! Pay me, pay me,&#8221; he shouts.<\/p>\n<p>The couple demand to be let out and later accuse the driver of hitting Mr Charkrid in the face.<\/p>\n<p>They paid Enock after becoming desperate to get out of the vehicle.<\/p>\n<p>In an update on 10 November, Mr Charkrid wrote on his YouTube channel: &#8220;We are now back to Bangkok.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;One of our friend in Paris went to the police station for us today to report the case.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;<\/p>\n<p>Skynews<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A fake taxi driver who demanded a tourist couple in Paris pay \u20ac247 (\u00a3219) for a trip from the airport has been jailed.
