The Central Bank of the\nUAE (CBUAE) issued a new banknote of AED1000 denomination, made of polymer for\ncirculation in the market. The new banknote will be available at banks and\nexchange houses starting from 10 April 2023. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
In the design of the new\nbanknote, the CBUAE was keen to highlight the success story of the UAE, using\nimages along with cultural and development symbols that reflect the pioneering\nglobal achievements of the UAE, which boosted its position amongst developed\ncountries in a record time. The design of the new banknote embodies the forward-looking\nvision and ambitions that has become a reality for the UAE as a leader in space\nexploration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The distinctive aesthetic characteristic\nof this banknote lies in the different shades of brown used which preserves the\ncolour characteristics of the same denomination banknote currently in\ncirculation to make it easy for the public to identify, in addition to the\nfluorescent blue marks of the UAE nation brand in the centre, and drawings and\ninscriptions created using advanced intaglio printing techniques.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Security and Design Features<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n The front side of the new\nbanknote depicts the image of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, next\nto a model of a space shuttle, inspired by his meeting with the pioneers of the\nAmerican space agency NASA in 1974.<\/p>\n\n\n\n This ambition was achieved\nin the Emirates Mars Mission “Hope Probe” journey in 2021, and it was\nembodied in the new banknote by placing an image of the \u201cEmirates Mission to\nExplore Mars – the Hope Probe\u201d at the top of the space shuttle, and the image\nof an astronaut added as a security mark that appears on the front side of the\nbanknote, to express the arrival of the first Emirati astronaut to the space.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The back of the new\nbanknote features an image of the Barakah Nuclear Energy Plant in Abu Dhabi,\nwhich will play a key role in diversifying energy sources in the country and\nreduce carbon emissions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n To enhance consumers\u2019\nconfidence and to combat counterfeiting of the national currency, the new\nbanknote features advanced security features that include modern technologies\nsuch as SPARK Flow\u00ae DIMENSIONS, which is used for the first time in banknotes\ncirculated in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. Furthermore, the UAE is the\nfirst in the MENA region to issue the largest multi-coloured KINEGRAM\u00ae surface\napplied foil stripe in the new banknote issue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n In addition to the\ndistinct visual effects in terms of security and design, the CBUAE added\nprominent symbols in Braille to help blind and visually impaired consumers to\nidentify the banknote\u2019s value.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The new banknote will be\nin circulation alongside the current AED1000 note whose value is guaranteed by the\nUAE law.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The CBUAE coordinated\ndirectly with ATM operating companies in the UAE to reprogram the dedicated ATM\nmachines to accept the new banknote.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Recently, the CBUAE won\nthe \u2018Best New Banknote\u2019 award for its new AED1000 banknote characterised by\nunique designs, technical characteristics, and innovative security features at\nthe regional level for the year 2023. This was announced during the annual\nawards ceremony for Banknote and ID Document of the Year Awards, which was held\non the sideline of the High Security Printing EMEA conference in Abu Dhabi. <\/p>\n\n\n\n On this occasion, H.E.\nKhaled Mohamed Balama, Governor of the CBUAE<\/strong>, said: \u201cThe issuance of this\nnew banknote, which is printed using eco-friendly polymer material, is aligned\nwith the leadership’s declaration of 2023 as the Year of Sustainability, and\nembodies the features of the new phase that the UAE has begun in its\ndevelopmental journey and ambitious future.
