{"id":52135,"date":"2023-02-17T13:01:06","date_gmt":"2023-02-17T09:01:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.uaebarq.ae\/en\/?p=52135"},"modified":"2023-02-17T13:01:08","modified_gmt":"2023-02-17T09:01:08","slug":"un-launches-1-billion-appeal-to-scale-up-aid-operations-in-turkiye","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.uaebarq.ae\/en\/2023\/02\/17\/un-launches-1-billion-appeal-to-scale-up-aid-operations-in-turkiye\/","title":{"rendered":"UN launches $1 billion appeal to scale-up aid operations in T\u00fcrkiye"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The United Nations has launched a $1 billion appeal for T\u00fcrkiye to assist more than five million people affected by the cataclysmic earthquakes last week, the largest to hit the country in a century.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The funding, which covers a three-month-period, will allow aid organisations to swiftly ramp up their operations to support Government-led response efforts in areas that include food security, protection, education, water, and shelter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>UN Secretary-General Ant\u00f3nio Guterres urged the international community to step up and fully fund the response effort.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The UN\u2019s Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator, Martin Griffiths, also called for countries to support the appeal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Griffiths, who visited the country last week, said, \u201cI met families who shared their stories of shock and devastation.
