Dubai\nCustoms\u2019 inspectors managed to thwart the smuggling of 36.76 kg of marijuana at\nDubai International Airport. The contraband was skillfully hidden in two bags\nthat belonged to an African passenger. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The\ninspection officers suspected the two bags that had varying densities during\nthe scanning procedure, and they were manually searched in the presence of the\npassenger. Black plastic bags that contained foodstuff and the marijuana were\ndiscovered. The first bag contained 16.86kg of marijuana and the second one\ncontained 19.9kg, which brought the total weight of the contraband to 36.76kg. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The suspect\nwas handed over to the relevant authorities for further investigation and\nlegal procedures. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Commenting on this, Ibrahim\nKamali, Director of Passenger Operations Department said; \u201cWe are proud of\ndoing our national duty to secure the borders and protect the society from the\nhazards of these illegitimate contrabands. Dubai Customs\u2019 inspection officers\nare the first line of defense to secure the borders against the smuggling of\nprohibited and hazardous shipments.\nOur inspectors are among the best in the world owing to their distinctive\nexperience and skills. They are an integral part of the Government Department\u2019s\n2021-2026 strategy and vision, which sees Dubai Customs leading the customs\nsector worldwide.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Kamali pointed out that smugglers sometimes resort to strange\ntricks, such as hiding prohibited items in foodstuffs, especially those with\nstrong smells like spices, and dried fish, and even body packing. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Kamali added; \u201cFor this, our inspectors joined intensive\ntraining workshops and courses to hone their skills in body language and\nmethods of revealing the various concealment and camouflage. These workshops\nare regularly updated to keep up with the latest trends in the field.
