In line with the vision of the UAE\u2019s wise\nleadership, the UAE’s strategy and future aspirations, and as part of the UAE\u2019s\n51st<\/sup> anniversary celebrations, the Central Bank of the UAE (CBUAE)\nhas launched a new banknote of AED1000 denomination, made of polymer and using innovative\ndesigns and advanced security features.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The issuance of the new AED1000 banknote,\nwhich is the fourth in the Third Issuance of the National Currency Project, comes\nwithin the framework of the Central Bank’s approach to improve the financial\nsector in the UAE.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the design of the new banknote, the\nCBUAE was keen to highlight the spirit of the union and the success story of\nthe UAE, using images along with cultural and development symbols that reflect\nthe pioneering global achievements of the UAE, which boosted its position amongst\ndeveloped countries in a record time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The front side of the new banknote depicts\nthe image of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, next to a model of a\nspace shuttle. This was inspired by the meeting of the late Sheikh Zayed bin\nSultan Al Nahyan with the pioneers of the American space agency NASA in 1976,\nto express the ambitions of the founding leader to position the UAE amongst the\npioneering explorers of the space.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This ambition was achieved in the\nEmirates Mars Mission “Hope Probe” journey in 2021, and it was\nembodied in the new banknote by placing the image entitled \u201cEmirates Mission to\nExplore Mars – the Hope Probe\u201d at the top of the banknote,   left of late Sheikh Zayed image, to showcase\nthe UAE\u2019s unique global position in space science and industry. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

This dream was also reflected in the\nimage of an astronaut added as a security mark that appears on both sides of\nthe banknote, to express the arrival of the first Emirati astronaut to the\nspace.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Central Bank was also keen to focus\non another global achievement for the UAE, by placing an image of the Barakah\nNuclear Energy Plant in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi at the back side of the new\nbanknote. The Plant will play a key role in diversifying energy sources in the\ncountry, reduce carbon emissions and hence enable the UAE to advance further in\nmeeting its international obligations in this regard. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The new AED1000 banknote highlights\nCBUAE\u2019s continuous efforts to adopt sustainable practices by using recyclable\npolymer material, which is one of today\u2019s top modern elements in the banknotes\nproduction. They are more durable and sustainable than traditional paper\nbanknotes, lasting two or more times longer in circulation. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The design of this new banknote contains\ndistinctive aesthetic characteristics, with different shades of brown. The CBUAE\npreserved the colour characteristics of the same denomination banknote\ncurrently in circulation to make it easy for the public to identify, in\naddition to the fluorescent blue marks of the UAE nation brand in the centre,\nand drawings and inscriptions created using advanced intaglio printing\ntechniques.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Furthermore, the CBUAEis the\nfirst in GCC and MENA regions to issue the largest multi-coloured KINEGRAM\u00ae surface applied foil stripe in the new banknote issue. This comes in line\nwith its efforts to enhance consumers\u2019 confidence and to combat counterfeiting\nof the national currency, making the UAE the first country in GCC and MENA\nregions to issue the largest of its kind surface applied foil stripe in banknotes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In this issue, the CBUAE maintained its\nconsideration of all banknote users by adding prominent symbols in Braille to\nhelp blind and visually impaired consumers to identify the banknote\u2019s value.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The new banknote will be available in\nCentral Bank branches and ATMs in the first half of 2023. The current AED1000\nnote will continue to be in circulation, as a banknote whose value is\nguaranteed by law.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On this occasion, His Excellency Khaled\nMohamed Balama, Governor of the CBUAE<\/strong>, said: \u201cThe issuance of the new AED1000\nbanknote comes under   the vision of UAE\u2019s President His Highness Sheikh\nMohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, to keep-up with the comprehensive development our\ncountry is witnessing, and represent UAE\u2019s global achievements and\nsuccesses, as well as highlight its future ambitions in various sectors.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

H.E. added: \u201cWe work in accordance with the vision of our wise leadership, and the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of the Presidential Court, and Chairman of the CBUAE Board of Directors, in transforming strategic plans, businesses and various projects into reality.
