{"id":4900,"date":"2018-10-15T10:58:14","date_gmt":"2018-10-15T06:58:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.uaebarq.ae\/en\/?p=4900"},"modified":"2018-10-15T10:58:14","modified_gmt":"2018-10-15T06:58:14","slug":"three-dead-as-plane-crashes-into-crowd-in-germany","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.uaebarq.ae\/en\/2018\/10\/15\/three-dead-as-plane-crashes-into-crowd-in-germany\/","title":{"rendered":"Three dead as plane crashes into crowd in Germany"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"story-body\">\n<div class=\"story-body__inner\">\n<p class=\"story-body__introduction\"><strong>A small plane has crashed in central Germany, killing two women and a boy.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The single-engine Cessna hit a group of people clustered by an airfield on Wasserkuppe mountain near the town of Fulda in Hesse state on Sunday.<\/p>\n<p>The plane was trying to gain height after a failed landing and crashed through an airport fence onto a road at about 15:45 (13:45 GMT).<\/p>\n<p>A police statement said five people were injured, including all four on board the plane.<\/p>\n<p>Police are still working to identify the three victims, the statement said, although local media report the boy could have been as young as 10.<\/p>\n<p>The 56-year-old pilot and three passengers were taken to hospital with slight injuries, and an eyewitness suffered severe shock.<\/p>\n<p>The weather was reportedly fair at the time, and the cause of the crash is not yet known. Police are investigating.<\/p>\n<p>Emergency services are at the scene, which has been cordoned off.<\/p>\n<p>Hesse state prime minister Volker Bouffier and interior minister Peter Beuth said they were &#8220;deeply affected&#8221; by the crash\u00a0on the state chancellery Twitter page, and thanked the emergency services for their commitment.<\/p>\n<p>The aircraft is reported to have been privately owned.<\/p>\n<p>Wasserkuppe mountain is the highest peak in the Rh\u00f6n Mountains and is popular among fliers of light aircraft and gliders.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"media-landscape no-caption full-width\"><span class=\"image-and-copyright-container\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"responsive-image__img js-image-replace\" src=\"https:\/\/ichef.bbci.co.uk\/news\/624\/cpsprodpb\/17396\/production\/_103862159_hessengermany9761018.png\" alt=\"A map of Germany\" width=\"976\" height=\"549\" data-highest-encountered-width=\"624\" \/><\/span><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"topic-tags\">\n<div id=\"u7701356830075383\">\n<div class=\"tags-container\">\n<p>&#8211;<\/p>\n<p>BBC<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A small plane has crashed in central Germany, killing two women and a boy.
